Expanded cork: benefits and comparison

Understand before choosing

Mascork Thermique Pur is an expanded cork board manufactured in Béjaïa by our partner. Conductivity: 0.04 W/(m·K); reaction to fire: Euroclass E, according to the Mascork sheet. The table compares insulation material families: generic ranges do not replace a specific product's data sheet. At equal thermal resistance, a lower conductivity requires less thickness.

Benefits within your project

Thermal insulation and plant-based material

Cork is a plant-based material. With Mascork's conductivity of 0.04 W/(m·K), R = e/λ gives a thermal resistance of 1.0 at 40 mm, 2.0 at 80 mm and 3.0 m²·K/W at 120 mm. These calculated values guide selection; they do not replace assessment of the complete construction and its thermal bridges.

Acoustics, moisture and durability

Cork's structure can contribute to acoustic comfort in a suitable assembly; the result depends on the complete wall or floor. Insulation does not replace waterproofing, ventilation or treatment of water ingress. For durability, check board protection, loads and actual service conditions.

Applications and system selection

Walls, roofs and floors: specify the substrate, loads, available thickness and fire requirements. External insulation is assessed as a complete system. Compare at equal thermal resistance, then review acoustics, moisture, installation and total cost: no insulation is best for every project.

Table ranges: Homegrade, façades (material-family guidance, without commercial ranking). Further reading: ADEME insulation guide and the Mascork data sheet.
